June 8-11 Regular Sessions at Lake Junaluska, NC

Welcome to the 2008 Holston Annual Conference.

I invite you to participate in this time of Holy Conferencing with the full knowledge that Christ is present with us. Let this be four days and three nights that inform you, inspire you, and send you forth to “Offer Them Christ.” There was a lady in my home church that often sang a song with these words. “The world is hungry for the Living Bread. Lift Him up for all the world to see. He said, ‘If I be lifted up from the earth, I’ll draw all unto me.’”

We gather as the 910 congregations of Holston Conference to discover how we can be more faithful to the call to “Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We do this by “living the United Methodist Way,” guided by the “Three Simple Rules.” Do No Harm, Do Good, and Stay in Love With God are three simple rules to which John Wesley has called us. You will hear about how you can do that, not only while you are at the Lake, but also how you can return home and help others to live the United Methodist Way. I welcome Bishop Larry Goodpaster of the Alabama West Florida Annual Conference, Bishop Richard Looney, Dr. Evelyn Laycock, and the Reverend Angela Hardy-Cross as our preachers and teachers for these days together.

Let us begin to give an account of our Christian Discipleship and stir up our faith so that we might share Christ with everyone.

Blessings,
James E. Swanson, Sr.
